in the half-light of twilight

Photograph by ienemien

it comes to me
in a flash

it comes
then creeps away

a moment             that flickers
once
then spreads                        steady
            slanted
bent
at an awkward set of
angles

and in its bent-ness
cool
low-lying shadows
rest

the grass
purples
in the half-light
of twilight

in a half-hour
it will be blue

it comes to me
then
that light is fleeting
flickering
vanishing

there is a goblet
filled with gold
sitting low
in the sky
inviting me
to drink

i drink
i quench

i still

the bronze gleam of bushes
does not stir
but
cool air
flirts
with my hair and lashes
billows
my skirt                         high
about my shoulders

no shame will make me
push my skirt back down

oh, white linen caresses!

can i see?
can i see?

can i see
the sun melting—
liquid copper
over glazed land,
gliding over hilly folds
in crimson hue?

can i see?
can i see?

what more to say?
what words to use?

it comes to me
that words have fled
as fleeting as light
into the first wink
of brilliant diamonds

into a vast
and wordless
lilac-blue

33 whispers from mind to mind:

  1. this whisks me away...to a far away land of yesteryear...i have visions of victorian ladies...your words so enchanted my friend my words escape me.

  2. it reads and feels like riding a swing - back and forth - freeing, releasing, into the coming of the ending day...beautiful and brassy

  4. Nevine, you might have changed for the better IF that were possible! But I think not. How can you be better than the 'greatest'?

These lines carried me far away (pardon my copying): "...the sun melting
    Liquid copper over glazed land,
    gliding over hilly folds
    in crimson hue?"

    Oh! I swoon in happiness!

  5. The playfulness and teasing of these lines had me humming. That's the feeling that wrapped me while reading this.

    Ah, what joy!

    Joy always,
    Susan

  9. Again you have taken me to this land of beauty. Not always has it been peaceful, but yet I always find something to love within your sanctum.

  15. David - It seems I missed a big happening in Blog Land! I was out all day and, come to find out, no one was able to do anything on Blogger. It also seems Blogger took the liberty of reposting my post from Wednesday evening, and stealing all my reader comments in the process. Oh well. Such is technology, right? It helps us one day and fails us the next. Can I complain? It's a free service, after all. And hey, maybe that time without blogging access was good, too. Sometimes we have to leave the computers and go out to sniff the breeze... Thank you ever so much for swinging by and reposting your comment, my dear friend! You didn't have to... so I appreciate it all the more. :-)

  16. Jenean - I'm so happy to hear you felt yourself inside this poem, Jenean. It was such a comfortable and sweet write for me. It was just so inspired by the real world... by real life. Thank you for your very sweet words!

  17. TO ALL - I know some of you swung by since Wednesday and posted comments, and thank you to all of you. I didn't get a chance to reply before whatever it was that happened happened. And just to think... I missed it all! Wow!

I also just discovered Blogger swallowed some comments from my previous post. Whatever it is that went down... it went down pretty bad, eh? Oh, well! Life does go on, though, doesn't it? Just think... life without computers... maybe not quite as instantly gratifying. But then, instant gratification can be a pretty damaging thing, too... if you stop and think about it.

Maybe Blogger just needed a little break. We all sleep at night, and Blogger is cranking 24/7/365. That'll make anyone crash, at some point, even a blogging service!

  18. Coucou Nevine!

  21. Blogger gave me a chance to stop by again and read your lovely verse.

What playfulness and joy here. My being felt light and carried away by the wind.

Leaving with joy and a feeling of lightness.

    Joy always,
    Susan

  22. It could be that other features of the blog have also been changed. I remember being able of copying some text that I wanted to refer to and paste it here in the comments.
I just wanted to copy: "there is a goblet filled with gold...." up to "I Still".
Those words give me a sense of calm that I love.

  23. Cremilde - Coucou! T'es trop gentille! I had read your words, my dear, but thank you so much for reposting. You know you didn't have to do that at all! Thank you for the warming wishes. And of course, I do wish you the same. Have a lovely Sunday!! Bisous!!!

Mildred - He he he... those amateurish pics. But I was so excited about the storm, I had to snap a few shots, amateurish or not! ;-) I'll leave the pro photography to you, anytime!!! Gros smacks!

  24. Wild Rose - Where have you been hiding all this time? But then, you don't have any explaining to do. I know we all need our breaks, every once in a while. I hope you'll be hanging out in the blogging world a while longer, this time. Thank you so much for stopping in, my dear. It's wonderful to see you here!

Susan - Well, thank you for stopping in again! I don't know what happened, but I guess Blogger decided to repost this one all over again. Or... something like that. I'm not sure exactly how it all came together... or fell apart, in the first place. Confusing, though, isn't it? Wishing you a beautiful Sunday, dear Susan!

Adriana - And those words are there because I needed that peace, as well. But it just came to me, that evening. And it was pure perfection! :-)

  25. So let our pics be amateurish, yours and mine;o) Love yours anyway!
And the important thing is to have pleasure when taking them and also when sharing them;o)

    Smack smack smack;o)

ps: He he he! Cremilde knew she didn't have to repost but she wanted to because she wanted to;o) Hugs and kisses from her;o)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Mildred - But your pics are not at all amateurish! No no!!! But I do agree that the important thing is to enjoy the moment of taking them... and also sharing them. In sharing them... it is as if we are reliving the moment... somehow. He he he... you are hilarious and your sense of humor is something else! ;-) Gros smacks and hugs to you!

  27. 'It comes to me , creeps, spreads, steady, slants, bends, awkward, grass, twilight, goblet, filled, sitting low,

i drink, skirt above my shoulder, no shame, white linen carress, over glazed land, gliding, hilly fold, wordless lilac blue.....'

    Boy! so much libido,
    Your words are squirting!

Nevine,You make everything so enjoyable! LOL§§§

    ReplyDelete
  28. COL - But it is not me that makes things so enjoyable, COL. It is life itself that is filled with such pleasure... in certain moments... unforgettable moments... that I only try to keep alive with my humble words. And libido... it is the stuff of life, isn't it? :-)

  29. i remember commenting on this one...

something about it being like a swing
    back and forth
rhythmic rocking it;s way through twilight
daring and joyful, a bit risque
    higher, higher...

i enjoyed it then as i enjoy it now.

  30. Kim - Thank you. So sweet of you to swing by again and leave your thoughts. I can't begin to tell you what a pleasure the writing of this one was. And it gives me a higher pleasure to know you enjoyed it so much. :-)
