Figure and Ground

Unknown Artist

how do i begin to paint
this picture?

here
now
today

in thought
in sensation
in body

you are

like yesterday
and tomorrow

and here
am i

the phobic lover
the pillar of organs
 and bone

waiting
for this stiff, unyielding heart

which forgets—time and again—to pulse

to curl into the totality of you
and ease

  1. Oh! The last line...so punctuates it all "to curl into the totality..."

    sigh.

    1. Thank you ever so much, Kim. I love that you used the word "punctuates" for a piece with virtually no punctuation. Oh, the figurativeness... the flight... of language! I love it!!!

  2. I so missed reading your words, Nevine. I wonder if the picture is as you imagined it to be!

    Joy always,

    1. Thank you, Betty. I really enjoyed writing this one because I opened myself up to being playful with both the words and the style. It was an interesting adventure... and I'm happy to know you liked the end result. Big hugs back, dearest!

  5. Nevine...Queen! How good to be here, reading your sweetness once more.
Ti let you know, I much prefer
    "...here
    now
    today"

    rather than

    yesterday, or even tomorrow (uncertainty?)
So happy you gave us the ending
    as:"and here I am:"
    NOW? I hope.
    Now and always,
    PEACE and LIGHT!

  15. Hello My sweet Nevine,
Been quite sometime since i've been here!

As always your thoughts stirring some unattended emotions, bringing into evidence 'the language of our being' so that what is in the bone marrow may become blood and life....Wishing you all the best of the best for the Year 2014,

always with warm hugs and kisses
